Sky F1 pundit Johnny Herbert believes that if George Russell wins the F2 championship this season then he should be able to race in Formula One next season.
It looks as if Russell could be without a team for next season, with most team's seats being taken already.
Russell has tested for Force India, but with Lance Stroll's move to the side imminent, it won't be the newly named Racing Point Force India for the Mercedes junior driver.
Despite very limited options for the F2 leader, Sky Sports F1 pundit, Herbert believes that if Russell does manage to win the F2 title - which looks inevitable; then he should be offered a seat next year on the F1 grid.
"If George goes on to win the championship, and personally I think he will, he should get an F1 drive," the pundit said on Sky F1.
Russell is on top as it stands, with soon-to-be McLaren driver Lando Norris his nearest competitor, in a duel that has been fascinating to witness from the start, between two of Britain's next motorsport stars.
"It's good getting this experience from F2," Herbert continued. "In this tense battle that they have been in since race one. Hopefully they will be able to use that to their advantage in F1.
"That's where the hard work really starts, it's getting that momentum and carrying that through. The confidence that gives you is so, so powerful."
