Christian Horner insists good communication between themselves and
Honda will be vital for the team in their battle for the 2019 title. During this winter, the new[ish] partnership will be working overtime to ensure they've got everything right before heading to Australia.
"Communication in any business, in particular in this sport, is a vital element," Horner said in an interview on F1i.
"Obviously Honda being based in Japan but their UK base is just around the corner from us in Milton Keynes. We’ve obviously got a huge amount of discussion going on between the groups and so far it’s all been very positive." Red Bull's little brother,
Toro Rosso have put a season under their belts together with Honda. This includes
Pierre Gasly who gets a winter promotion from the junior team to join
Max Verstappen.
“I think we’ve found a very healthy working environment. We’ve been nurturing through the relationship with Red Bull technology, Toro Rosso and Honda, [so] we don’t go into next year completely afresh," Horner said.
When Horner mentions communication, he could be looking back on
McLaren's recent stint with Honda and how that resulted in a disaster. The F1 boss at Honda last discussed how this ruined the relationship between Honda and
McLaren and didn't help improve negative results.
"We had much better communication with the team compared to the past. As a result of that we had a better connection between the chassis and power unit on the technical side," Yamamoto said.
