Christian Horner is very confident in the qualities of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. While he believes the Dutchman has already demonstrated extensively that he continues to improve himself, he also sees Perez developing. The team boss therefore hopes that Red Bull Racing will be able to produce an even better season in 2023.
Horner was impressed by the way Verstappen beat his 2021 rival Lewis Hamilton. Speaking to Auto, Motor und Sport he revealed that the now two-time World Champion managed to perform even better a year later.
"I think that’s the exciting thing with Max that as he gains experience he just becomes more rounded and versatile, and just deals with pressure incredibly well. What he’s achieved has been phenomenal," the team leader analysed Verstappen's development.
Red Bull took a long time to find a teammate that would suit Verstappen. Horner is satisfied with the way Perez is filling his current role. Whereas he had to get used to the Austrian formation in 2021, Horner says he is now doing better.
"I think Checo has handled that very well. Of course he was a integral part of us winning the Constructors championship and finishing a very close third in the championship (Drivers’) last year. Winning two Grand Prix."
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner praised Max Verstappen for his performance in 2021, despite Verstappen being beaten by 11 seconds in the deciding race. However, Horner's statement may have been an attempt to deflect criticism of the team's car or strategy, seek attention away from the widely believed injustice to Lewis Hamilton, or a PR move to cover up the fact that the team still needs to improve its car with lesser wind-tunnel time. Whatever the case, it appears Horner's statement was more than just a genuine compliment.
Could have been second in the championship Horner if one of your drivers was a team player.....oh well more of the same in 2023, good luck Checo, i wish you well
Nope, even if Max let him pass in Brazil, Checo would have ended third in the WDC.
@jem, yep you're right about Brazil but Checo gave up positions earlier in the season so lost points there as well, 2nd would have been on the cards
Herr Flick is just copying talking points from others. It's one of the few party lines going around about why Max cruised to a second title: Checo was sacrificed, the car is great - not the driver, cheating cheating cheating. Thing is, Horner is right. Give Max a capable car and he'll either win or put 200% effort and skill into getting a win. His consistency and adaptability are frightening.
Oh sht, here we go again. I gotta get my popcorn ready lol
Why, Honer is correct in all his assessments. Redbull have the strongest package and very strong driver pairing for this seaon. Max is maturing , I have noticed this in his last few interviews , also on track he is maturing as well......until Lewis is around then ,both drivers loose their shi*. I just hope the strong driver relationship keeps.going strong between Max and Pérez, we saw last season how strong it was Pérez helping the team and Max , and how ....... Well ne way I have them as my favorites to head up the championship this season .
I agree with all of that. I just thought that line ‘ Horner was impressed by the way Verstappen beat his 2021 rival etc’ was going to start a war in the comments again. I was wrong, but that’s a good thing
Nothing wrong with Horner sharing his opinion, thats what he believes , and that's what he believes. I don't believe the same, but thats my opinion. The blog is maturing, the polarizing users are fewer, let's not encourage them in our posts .
@Vegan "until Lewis is around then ,both drivers loose their shi*." Thankfully then he wasn't around where it counted in 2022.
Well I guess your memory might be going as that did happen last season. F1 is back, more like F1 is Back cause he forgot what happened last season lol.
