Red Bull boss
Christian Horner has said that the mechanics on
Daniel Ricciardo’s car did a
“miraculous” job to change the Australian’s engine in just two hours.
Ricciardo stopped during FP3 with a suspected turbo failure, giving his mechanics little time to complete the necessary repairs and replacements to get Ricciardo’s car ready for qualifying.
He sits in eighth in the standings following his retirement in Bahrain and managed to get out on track in the last few minutes of Q1. He eventually qualified sixth, just under a second behind Sebastian Vettel.
After double retirement in Bahrain, Red Bull could not afford another poor race, and Horner praised Ricciardo’s mechanics, saying: “What they’ve achieved today is miraculous, getting the engine turned around and there was quite a lot of work getting that engine dresses and onto the car, it’s just herculean.
“To see Max’s mechanics as well diving in when and where they could, it’s what a team is all about.
“That was the biggest result of qualifying for us today was actually achieving that feat.”
Horner will be hoping for a positive result compared to their rivals on Sunday, as they are already behind Ferrari and Mercedes in the Constructors’ standings, with McLaren also ahead.
