Christian Horner looks back on this season with pride but he still acknowledges that there are certainly lessons to be learned for the future. In the post-race press conference, the Red Bull team boss told GPBlog and others that this season has been full of great moments.
Red Bull Racing has had one of the strongest years in the team's history. For the first time since 2013, Red Bull won the title in both drivers and constructors. Throughout the season, there could be no doubt about the dominance of both Max Verstappen and Red Bull. Team boss Horner was therefore rightly pleased with the team's results.
Afterward, he was asked if there is anything the team can learn from this season. " Look, in life - and especially in this sport - you are always learning," Horner replied. "You learn on the days you lose and you learn on the days you win. You learn from everything that happens in this sport. That goes for everyone involved. The day you think you know everything is the day you start losing. We can learn a lot of lessons from this year."
The year was not just made up of great moments. Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz died just before Red Bull won the constructors' title. Mateschitz was very closely involved with the team and was crucial in shaping Red Bull Racing. According to Horner, this season is a great way to say goodbye to Mateschitz.
"Huge positives, a phenomenal year for the team, the drivers, our partners," Horner added. "In a year when we unfortunately lost our founder, we have had the most successful year ever. This is a testament and a tribute to him."
