Red Bull boss
Christian Horner seems to be tired of Renault’s engine problems, as the team look for engine suppliers for 2019 and onwards.
There have been rumours that Red Bull may switch to Honda power units after Toro Rosso have had a relatively positive experience with the Japanese company so far, with Pierre Gasly finishing fourth in Bahrain.
Red Bull won four drivers’ and four constructors’ titles between 2010 and 2013 with Renault engines, Sebastian Vettel winning all those titles.
Since 2013, it has been more difficult for the team based in Milton Keynes, winning only nine races in just over four seasons.
Daniel Ricciardo won last time out in China, although that was more down to an impressive strategy change and inspired driving from the Australian.
It seems as if Horner is not impressed with Renault’s engines, after a host of problems in the early rounds of the season, including the turbo problem that almost ruled Ricciardo out of qualifying in Shanghai.
"We’ve been on that rollercoaster for about five years, sometimes there’s a complete loop the loop in it,” he said. “So the rollercoaster continues.
“He (Ricciardo) had the energy store failure in Bahrain, he had a turbo failure in China, losing him important track time. You get to a point where you think ‘what’s next?’”
