After the qualifying session for the
Mexican Grand Prix, Christian Horner was not satisfied with
Yuki Tsunoda. The Red Bull boss suggested the AlphaTauri driver hindered
Max Verstappen and
Sergio Perez. According to Horner his statements were blown up too much on
social media.
Qualifying Verstappen and Perez ruined
During Q3 Tsunoda pulled out for Verstappen and Perez by going off track. Perez was startled by this and went off the track himself. Verstappen also went off the gas, so that both drivers could not improve their time. After the race, Horner said that his drivers were
"tsunoda'd". That statement got him a lot of criticism, especially on
social media.
According to Horner, however, too much value has been placed on the statements he made about Tsunoda. "If you look at the context in which it was placed, unfortunately, you see that on social media there is a habit of blowing things like this up and magnifying them." Horner already backtracked somewhat on his statements after watching the footage again.
Commenting on drivers
Horner was particularly accused on social media of rubbishing a driver from his own junior programme. However, Horner does not agree with that criticism.
"I think it would be a pretty boring world if you weren't allowed to comment on a driver's performance anymore." In the end, it all worked out for
Red Bull Racing. Verstappen won the race and Perez finished third.
