Nico Hulkenberg managed to get his Renault into fifth place during Friday's FP2. In the process, he beat
Max Verstappen's Red Bull and finished miles ahead of his teammate
Daniel Ricciardo.
Following the session, he believes he shouldn't read too much into the result.
“If a Friday is good I’m not one of those guys who reads
into it too much. I think other people didn’t reach their full potential today," a contained Hulkenberg said in an interview with
RaceFans.
Despite his good result, he wasn't pleased with how the car was running. From what he says, it sounds like he had more of a result like Ricciardo, who finished P15 in FP2.
“Obviously the timesheet looks good, the long run times look OK. But the feeling wasn’t that great in the car, to be honest. We still were far off with the balance in my opinion. We need to keep working and keep finding some harmony and lap time," he added.
“I think Daniel had – I don’t know exactly, I don’t think he had the best of laps and had a bit of a struggle this afternoon. So don’t read too much into it."
