Guanyu Zhou is known as a promising driver. The 22 year old Chinese driver finished seventh and sixth during the last two seasons in
Formula 2. This year, he is currently in second position.
The youngster is only five points behind frontrunner Oscar Piastri, meaning he is still in contention for the
Formula 2 world title. It immediately raises the question if Zhou is ready for a move to the highest level next season.
Zhou himself is convinced that he can handle the move to
Formula 1, although Alpine has two good drivers in house for the time being with
Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso.
"My all-time goal is to be a Formula 1 driver," he says
on the official website of Formula 1.
"Right now, I’m trying to win the F2 championship, to do well, and hopefully that opportunity in F1 will come."Zhou can write history
Zhou would then be the first Chinese driver in Formula 1. "It is quite crazy back home. In these past few years, the number of people who know about motorsport in China has been growing massively. I’m happy to carry the Chinese flag and to make people back home proud. I haven’t reached yet the top level, but that’s the goal."
