Jenson Button will join the World Endurance Championship 'super-season' in 2018/19 joining the SMP Racing team for the season. The former
McLaren man will be racing in the LMP1 division and against former McLaren teammate
Fernando Alonso.
Button's last F1 race was in Monaco last year, deputising for his new rival whilst the Spaniard was competing at the Indy 500, but his new contract will see him competing as a direct rival against Alonso once more.
"As you can imagine, it's always been a dream of mine to race at Le Mans. I think it's every driver's dream to take part and hopefully go on to clinch that win at Le Mans, and I'm definitely no different," he said.
"I think with those two and the experience we all have from different types of racing and the team's experience in endurance racing, all different categories, we go to Le Mans to fight for the win. Of course, every driver aims to win every race they go in for, but I think we really do have a good chance of being competitive at Le Mans.
"I think for most of us it is survival and then you see where you are at the end of the 24 Hours, and hopefully we are fighting for that victory."
Button will be joined by former F1 driver Vitaly Petrov and IndyCar's Mikhail Aleshin.
