Last race weekend, Lando Norris had a fantastic weekend. In his home race at Silverstone, the McLaren driver finished P2, staying ahead of the likes of Lewis Hamilton and his teammate Oscar Piastri. In a press session with GPBlog and others after the race, Norris looks back on this brilliant result.

The McLaren team did not start 2023 on a thunderous note, but after the Spanish GP, the Woking-based team seems to have started down the right path. A package of updates were introduced in Austria, resulting in strong results at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone. Lando Norris already stole the show with a second place in qualifying at Silverstone and followed that up with a fine performance on Sunday.

Podium in Silverstone GP

"I would say this was my best race, the most exciting one," he indicated. "Your first podium in Formula One is always pretty special. That's one you remember forever. But maybe not when you got as many as they do. But for me, I'm still in that phase where every one means a lot. And especially my first one here in my home Grand Prix. It's very special hearing everyone chanting and seeing all the fans, seeing all the team below the podium".

Fight with Hamilton

Norris also looked back at the duel he fought with Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton seemed the favourite to take over second position from Norris after the safety car phase, but he failed to pass the McLaren driver with a softer tyre compound. "It was a very good one. It was exciting. I really did want to hold on to P2. I did everything I could". Like Lewis said, the first half of the lap, they were very strong. We were just very good, always in the last sector. I was a lot of laps quite easily flat through Turn 9 and I could always give myself that safety margin that I wanted,'' Norris concluded. "It was nice coming out side by side. It was close when I saw him third of the inside in Turn 7, but I'm sure all the fans were loving it at the same time.''
