The Grand Prix in Las Vegas later this year should be a huge happening, with F1 cars racing along the legendary Strip of the iconic gambling city. That the most scenic spots in Vegas have been chosen to serve as street circuits is, on the one hand, nice for the pictures. On the other hand, it creates a logistical challenge.

Completely shutting down the heart of Las Vegas and thus all those expensive hotels from traffic for days on end is impractical. For example, supplying the hotels and many catering establishments would become a problem. Therefore, the organisers have decided to adopt the same solution that has been common in Monaco for many years, which local authorities announced on Monday.

Roads open to traffic after sessions

The F1 sessions all take place in the evening. The roads that will soon serve as the circuit will gradually close from 5pm local time each day. At 7pm, the roads are completely closed to all traffic. As we know, the Grand Prix will be finished on the night from Saturday to Sunday, so the first free practice session will take place on Thursday evening. An hour and a half after the roads are closed this day, the F1 drivers will then enter the track.

The second free practice ends at 1am local time. At exactly 2am, the roads will be open to regular traffic again. Also on Friday and Saturday, the roads will close completely at 7pm local time. Again at 2am, it will be possible to drive your own car around the F1 circuit again.
