Charles Leclerc has admitted that he can be very tough on himself sometimes, as shown by the “I am stupid” radio message after his Q2 crash in Azerbaijan.

Leclerc was understandably frustrated at throwing away a very good chance of securing his second F1 pole position and a huge opportunity to grab that maiden win that eluded him in Bahrain.

When asked by Monaco Matin if his angry radio messages were his way of apologising to the team, he said: "Not really. It was a natural, spontaneous reaction. No message to send.

"These words, in fact, they come out because I am very demanding with myself.

"Since my debut in single-seaters, and even since karting, I want to learn from my mistakes so as not to repeat them."
