Charles Leclerc produced a track record to earn his first ever pole position as
Ferrari locked down the front row in qualifying at the 2019
Bahrain Grand Prix.
Leclerc produced a stunning lap of 01:27.866 to take pole as
Mercedes weren't able to follow up there one-two from Australia with a shut out in Bahrain.
Sebastian Vettel qualified in second with a time of 1:28.160 but faced a nervy wait for
Lewis Hamilton to come in but the Brit was only able to lap at 1:28.190 in Q3 meaning Ferrari had something to show for their early dominance.
It was an impressive qualifying session for
McLaren as both of their cars made it to Q3 with
Carlos Sainz eventually qualifying seventh and
Lando Norris tenth.
Verstappen,
Magnussen, Grosjean and
Raikkonen completed the top ten with
Haas once again proving to be the early midfield leaders.
It was another disappointing qualifying session for
Pierre Gasly who failed to make it out of Q2, he'll start P13 on the grid. The Frenchman set a best time of 1:29.526 which wasn't enough to take him into Q3. Both Renaults failed to make it into Q3 with
Hulkenberg exiting in Q1 and
Ricciardo qualifying P11.
Williams once again brought up the rear and will once again start from the back,
Russell P19 and
Kubica P20.
