Charles Leclerc has admitted he’s very happy to be ahead of his teammate, Sebastian Vettel after the Ferrari driver claimed his first ever pole position at the 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix.
Leclerc, who finished fifth in Melbourne qualified in a track record time of 1:27.866 to take pole position. Ferrari cemented their early weekend dominance by shutting out the front row with Sebastian Vettel qualifying P2 in a time of 1:28.160 as Lewis Hamilton in third could only manage 1:28.190.
Speaking after his successful qualifying session Leclerc spoke of his joy and relief after the last race in Melbourne.
“I'm extremely happy, in the last race I was not happy with qualifying and I did some mistakes in Q3 so I worked hard not to make the same mistakes again, extremely happy,” the Monegasque said.
Leclerc out-qualified his four-time World Champion teammate Sebastian Vettel but Leclerc insisted he wants to keep learning from him but is happy to be in front for the race.
"Sebastian is an amazing driver and I have learned a lot, and I will learn all year, but today I'm very happy to be in front of him,” he added.
