Lewis Hamilton has taken a dig over
Fernando Alonso's career choices. The Brit is sure Alonso would have won many more titles had he made the correct career choices. The Spaniard now finds himself stuck at
McLaren, a team which look to be in constant reverse.
While Hamilton moved away from McLaren at just the right time to make the best career move, Alonso could have moved to Red Bull. In the time after, Sebastian Vettel got the seat and won four consecutive World Championships. Championships which could well have fallen into Alonso's hands.
"Sure, he could have had more World Titles, but it's not like he did not have the chance," Hamilton told Racefans after becoming champion for the fifth time.
"It just depends on making the right decisions outside the cockpit."
Over the course of the week, the likes of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo have admitted they feel jealous not having the Mercedes seat. They have both suggested they'd win titles.
But Hamilton points out Alonso's mistake. He claims the two-time World Champion thought he controlled the driver market.
"If you think like him, you control the driver market, then you should not be surprised if you end up empty-handed," Hamilton added.
“When Fernando gave up his seat at Ferrari, they hired Seb, and [Alonso] did not get Seb’s place at Red Bull because they gave that to Max. Nevertheless, I still have a lot of respect for him."
