After the Formula 1 FP1 session, the F2 cars took over the track in Saudi Arabia. American driver Jak Crawford topped qualifying ahead of Victor Martins, while Leonardo Fornaroli rounded off the Top 3.
During the 30-minute session, after a rather incident-free first set of runs, it was Red Bull junior talent Lindblad who led on the supersoft tyres with a 1:44.250 ahead of Victor Martins and Alex Dunne.
The Briton could have improved further during the final lap of his first stint, as he was up on his delta time with a purple Sector 2, but he returned to the pit lane instead.
During the final 10 minutes, the entire grid once again returned to the track on supersoft tyres.
As there was more grip on track, drivers continued to improve. With five minutes to go, there was a red flag, after in Turn 17 John Bennett crashed out. He told the Van Amersfoort team that he was ok, unlike his car.
After a short delay, drivers had five minutes to put a lap together, with Williams junior Luke Browning leading at this point.
In the end, three drivers managed to further improve on the Briton's lap time. DAMS driver Jak Crawford claim pole position, just ahead of Victor Martins and Leonardo Fornaroli.
Browning finished in P4, while
Arvid Lindblad set the fifth quickest time on this Friday.
In terms of the Sprint Race, Robert Stanek will start from pole, while Dutch driver Richard Verschoor will line up alongside him.
