Kevin Magnussen has admitted that his first few years in the F1 were "tumultuous", but at the same time, he's happy where he is, as his current team Haas F1 gives him confidence and calmness.
Magnussen has been blatantly out-performing his teammate Romain Grosjean this season, as the Dane has 45 points compared to Grosjean's 21. He sits in eighth in the drivers' championship, only having Nico Hülkenberg in front of him of the non-big three teams.
However, it wasn't exactly smooth sailing for K-Mag when he first came into the F1. At McLaren, where he made his debut in 2014, he was brushed aside after his debut season to make room for Fernando Alonso. Magnussen made a comeback at Renault in 2016 and left for Haas F1 in 2017.
"My first couple of years in F1 were tumultuous," Magnussen told Crash.net, looking back on his earlier years.
"They were really messy, changing teams, having a year off and coming back in and struggling again with the team.
"Now I’ve found some consistency, a more consistent place to get into the whole thing again and building up.
"I feel like I’m back at a good level."
