The four-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has hinted he might make a move to F1 in the coming years. He got his first taste of an F1 car yesterday when he drove a Toro Rosso in Austria.
The 25-year-old confirmed his focus was still on motorbikes but didn’t rule out a move past the 2020 season. Mark Webber and Niki Lauda watched on to assess and mentor his talents on four wheels.
“My complete focus in the coming years will remain on MotoGP,” said the Spaniard in an interview on GrandPrix247.
“I’m part of a fantastic team, and I feel fully motivated. Who knows though, maybe Formula 1 will be a serious ides for me in a few years time.” Marquez currently leads the MotoGP championship and Helmut Marko has suggested he has the ability to move into F1.
The only person to win the World Championship on both two wheels and four wheels is British driver John Surtees. He was also a four-time world champion in his respective motorbike formula and went onto win the Formula 1 World Championship in 1964. He made the switch four years earlier.
