Chase Carey, CEO of
Formula 1 believes the USA and China should have more than one Grand Prix every season because they are large enough. This year's calendar equals the most races ever in an F1 season at 21 Grands Prix.
Carey spoke at an FIA Sport Conference where he expressed his thoughts on China and the USA. A new race in Miami is still under discussion after being given the green light for planning.
“Right now, we’re hoping to have a second Grand Prix in the US,” said Chase. “I think countries of that size and scale [its] important.
“Our focus is that we want to make sure that the events we have, we want to make as strong as they can be - so it is quality over quantity.”
At one point, the US held three races a year. Motorsport in the US is a very competitive market, but Chase believes he can dig deeper into it.
“China and the US are the two biggest economies in the world, and they’re two places where we’ve just scratched the surface of the potential of the sport,” he added.
Seemingly, more races would have to drop out before adding in the extras that Chase Carey keeps on bringing up. But which would you like to see dropped? And do you think the second race in China/US would work?
