Chairman and CEO of Ferrari Sergio Marchionne has restated his threat that Ferrari could pull out of Formula One if the rules proposed and implemented by Liberty Media are not to Ferrari's liking.
Having already told the sports media that the team could leave F1 due to rule proposals set out by F1 owners Liberty Media, Marchionne reiterated that should the new rules not suit the team, then he would have no hesitations about withdrawing his team from the sport.
Marchionne said at a shareholders’ meeting in Amsterdam that should the future of the sport depart from the tradition and history of F1, it could be the end of the team competing in the sport.
“If F1 becomes more of a spectacle than a sport, if we go in the direction of NASCAR races, then Ferrari will leave.
“If there are any proposals that distort F1, I think Ferrari will pull out.”
Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene, however, said that the team would be working with Liberty Media to help define the future of F1.
“We are working with Liberty Media to find acceptable solutions,” he told planetf1.com.
“We had a proposal from Liberty 10 days ago, we expect to know the details and then we will make choices in the interest of Ferrari.
“We could look for alternative solutions, it’s not a threat, but it does not mean we stop shopping.”
