Sergio Marchionne has made done a complete u-turn on the proposed changes coming in F1 2021. He is now “encouraged” by the engine proposals but doesn’t withdraw his threat to quit
Formula 1.
The
Ferrari boss spoke yesterday on a first quarter conference call. The issue was brought up and he gave a surprising response.
“I’m encouraged by the change in the attitude that we are seeing from Liberty in terms of the extent of the changes that they’re forecasting in 2021,” Sergio said.
“So the stuff that’s on the table now is potentially workable as a system. The economics are not.
“I think there is something that we need to go back to Liberty with.”
Sergio went on to explain how the new regulations could bring about a change in Ferrari’s core which they don’t want to see.
“(Need to) Try and bring about a sensible equilibrium. If we cant, as I said before, we’ll just pull out.”
