This morning, Toto Wolff has explained how the Mercedes team could set up a partnership with a customer team.
The German team have witnessed both Ferrari and Haas come on leaps and bounds this season, and Wolff insists that a similar thing could do the same for Mercedes.
“I think we have seen that the system between Ferrari and Haas has worked, it has worked for both,” said Wolff.
“It’s an interesting revenue filter for Ferrari, and I think in terms of synergies, there is a lot you can work on, and it has functioned for Haas.”
If a merger or partnership was created, it’s likely that Mercedes would join with either Williams or Force India. Lance Stroll confirmed in the week it would be really beneficial to him and the team, but Claire Williams soon shut him down.
The partnership could also be a way to develop Mercedes drivers, in a similar way to Toro Rosso and Red Bull.
“So far the system is very successful, and of course our thinking goes in that direction - whether it is Williams or Force India to collaborate,” added Wolff.
But Wolff said this issue isn’t too concerning at the moment as they are more focused on clawing back the 2018 title.
“But we are in the middle of a tough fight for this 2018 championship, so we need to prioritise.”
