Zak Brown, the director of
McLaren's
F1 team, is unapologetic about the track limits fiasco at the
Austrian Grand Prix, with the American wanting something like this to never happen again.
The
FIA announced that it had to check no fewer than 1,000 cases of possible track limit violations after the Grand Prix. Many drivers failed to keep their cars between the lines, especially at turn 10. It caused several drivers to still receive time penalties hours after the race, changing the final result.
It is particularly galling to Brown that everyone saw the problems coming a long time ago. "I think where we need to do better as a sport is we all kind of thought what happened on Sunday could happen, and yet we just kind of watched it happen," the businessman argues.
Time for action
According to the
McLaren man, the past Grand Prix demands action:
"What we need to do is make sure it never happens again and that we do a proper debrief and understand how we could have prevented it," he states to
Reuters. However, Brown hopes and expects it not to be a permanent problem. "
I've never seen anything like that before, so I don't think this is something that is an ongoing issue at other race circuits," he said.
