McLaren can only be satisfied with the performance of
Lando Norris, who is just two points behind
Lewis Hamilton in the championship. Team boss
Andreas Seidl, however, thinks it is too early to make comparisons with some of the big names in
Formula 1 history.
Norris, like last year, shines with his very consistent results, leaving a deeper impression than his teammate
Daniel Ricciardo. The young Briton has already scored a podium finish in
Imola this year and is currently battling with Hamilton for sixth place in the championship, despite having one more outing to his name.
Norris impresses McLaren
McLaren is understandably delighted with the driver, who is guaranteed a place with the team from Woking until 2025. Despite his consistent results and the great development he has made in recent years,
Andreas Seidl believes it is too early to compare him to some of the big names.
In conversation with
Motorsport.com the team boss indicates that he does not yet want to draw the comparison with, for example,
Michael Schumacher or Lewis Hamilton. However, he adds that there was a good reason to offer Norris a long-term contract.
According to Seidl, the young Briton has shown his team that he "has something special," with the
Monaco Grand Prix being the most recent example. There, Norris managed to finish sixth in a tricky race and partly because of that, McLaren is currently fourth in the constructors' championship.
