This weekend the IndyCar series will start again. The first Grand Prix takes place in the streets of St. Petersburg in Florida, where Scott McLaughlin took his first pole position.
Rinus Veekay was one of the first drivers to enter the race. He was in the first group on behalf of his team Ed Carpenter Racing, where he set the third fastest time. That was enough to advance to the 'Fast Six', where the six fastest drivers fight it out for the pole position in the final phase.
In that final phase, Veekay set a time of 1:00.29, just ahead of Romain Grosjean. This puts the Dutchman three tenths off the pole time, which was set by Scott McLaughlin. For McLaughlin it is his first pole position in the racing class. Will Power and Colton Herta set a second and third time respectively.
