Mercedes worked hard again on Thursday with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell on the new car. Although the German racing team looks back on the positive day, by no means everything was with them. This is what Andrew Shovlin tells in a press release.
The Germans have been the best team in Formula 1 in recent years, but due to the new regulations it remains to be seen how Mercedes will compare to the competition. In any case, during the first days of testing, Mercedes will have to work hard on the new car, Shovlin emphasizes.
"We had a difficult morning with Lewis," he explains. "Experiencing a data logging issue that delayed our start and in general, we were struggling a bit more with the balance. Some of that may have been setup items that we were trying and some of it the harder tyres that we were running today. We managed to get a few runs completed then unfortunately had a sensor issue that prevented us doing further performance work."
In the afternoon, Russell got the opportunity to take the car out on the track. He too suffered from some problems, but according to Shovlin, there is nothing worrying. "We've still got plenty of issues to work on from a performance point of view but we are continuing to learn with every run which in turn will make us faster."
