Mercedes looks back on a positive race weekend in Australia. Where the team is still in a tricky position with the cars, it nevertheless managed to secure third and fourth positions with
George Russell and
Lewis Hamilton. It caused satisfaction for
Andrew Shovlin afterwards, he revealed in
Mercedes' press release.
Among other things, the engineer of the German racing stable was satisfied with how Russell had done. "He is working hard to help us improve the car," he stated. "Although we don't have the pace at the moment that he is hoping for, the podium is still a reward for his efforts."
For Hamilton, there was no podium finish in sight. The Briton started the race from fifth place and briefly managed to move into third position during the start, but could not prevent himself from eventually ending up in fourth place.
Hamilton and Russell doing good business
According to Shovlin, the performance of the drivers is very important for the development of the team. "At this stage of the championship we are focusing on only two things: damage limitation and learning. In both respects, this has been a successful weekend, but we know we still have a lot to do. Charles was in a different world today, so we probably have a long way to go."
