Red Bull is a hot topic right now, as many people believe he is getting ready to leave the team. Over the past year, Red Bull has had more issues with their cars. Despite Verstappen being able to win at the Japanese Grand Prix, he has stated that he does not believe he will be a title contender this season.
Rumours are floating around that he will soon make his attempt to exit Red Bull. While he may still be on the wishlist of many teams, Montoya thinks he is not in as good a place as he once was. Montoya said, "If I was Max, I would be concerned", as quoted by Express Sports.
Verstappen Loses Negotiating Position
"Six months ago, he could have asked for any amount of money to go anywhere, and people would have paid it." Montoya is convinced that Verstappen has lost some of the power he once held.
"Max wants to win, but if the Red Bull is not competitive, the negotiation is very different. "I think the negotiation a year ago before he re-signed with Red Bull when [Mercedes boss] Toto [Wolff] was very outspoken about signing Max, was very different to what it would be now. The number was an insane number."
