Adrian Newey, considered by many to be the best designer in
Formula 1, will enter his sixteenth year with
Red Bull Racing in 2021. Just a year after Red Bull acquired the team from Jaguar, Newey joined the team.
Newey saw this as a great challenge. "
I saw Red Bull as a startup team, something that really appealed to me," Newey told Dutch magazine
Formule 1 in an interview.
New challenge with Red Bull
"Nobody knew where things would go with Red Bull, but the first goal was to get to a position where we could win races. From there we would see. So the success we've had over the years has been very rewarding for me."
The designer has had a big part in that success, and suggested a different feeling at Red Bull than at
McLaren and
Williams, with whom he has also been very successful in the past.
"Williams and McLaren are great teams, but even though I was valued there I always felt like an employee. For Red Bull I feel a lot more responsibility. I even have a bit of a fatherly feeling with the team," Newey concluded.
With all due respect, I would advise him to take an other challenge like helping Williams to become world champions with a Benz power unit. To stay too long in a team it's not great for anyone coz after a while it's like a dog that bites it's tail.
Why doesn’t he get away from his high-raked, short wheelbase designs and go for a longer wheelbase car which would make it a lot faster overall through the course of a whole race season as there are more high speed circuits around compared to tracks with lots of sharp low speed turns, which are the tracks that a short wheelbase car have the advantage.
It will make the car a lot more stable and less twitchy at the rear end!
For Red Bull I feel a lot more responsibility. I even have a bit of a fatherly feeling with the team," Newey concludes.... 16 years is long time... maybe you've matured n wiser...something you were not at the other two teams... you did well for RBR... father figure also bcoz of gray hairs... ;)
