Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo won't receive a grid penalty in the Canadian Grand Prix, as Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul has revealed that the Aussie's faulty MGU-K unit has survived Monaco.
During the Monaco Grand Prix, Ricciardo had some failures in his engine compartment, as his MGU-K just gave up halfway during the race. Somehow, the Aussie saw out the race in P1 even though he didn't have his two highest gears.
People were afraid that Ricciardo would be receiving a grid penalty in Canada, however, for having to replace the MGU-K. Ricciardo is already on his final one before receiving grid penalties, but that will not happen in Canada yet, at least.
"It looks like we won't start with a grid penalty in Montréal," Abiteboul revealed to AMS on Wednesday morning.
Ricciardo has already notched up two race wins, the same amount as Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. Ricciardo sits in third now in the championship table, but is 40 points behind Hamilton, who leads the way.
