Lando Norris has the potential to win a Formula 1 world title in the future. However, the Briton tells GQ Magazine that he is realistic and that this coming season is unlikely to be in the cards.

A lot has changed at the British formation in recent months. During last season, it already decided not to continue with Daniel Ricciardo, who then left for Red Bull Racing to become a reserve driver. Andreas Seidl also left the racing stable: he decided to take up an offer from Sauber.

With Andrea Stella as the new team boss and Oscar Piastri as the second driver alongside Norris, the team hopes to continue the growth of recent years. In particular, they needs to focus on catching up with Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes in 2022.

Norris honest with himself

McLaren hopes to stand with the world title within a couple of seasons, but this coming race year comes too soon, according to Norris. The talented driver is aware that in the two years that follow he does need to be ready to compete with the likes of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

"With everything I’ve learned, maybe I could win a race," Norris stated to Medium. "But I’m unlikely to win a championship until possibly that time. I know I need to be at the absolute top of my game in those years.”

No shhhhhhhhttttttt Sherlock. You aint gonna have a fast enough car overall by a long shot. This is a driver i see that believes he can take on Max. Maby with a better tool maby. In equal machinery, nnnhhhaaaa dude. Verstappen has grown a mustache and led the virtual Le Mans until his car lost connection. I wonder why. Not aggressive enough, Lando. Is Lando going to Ferrari or Audi. Maby Chevy. Hahahahaha. Lol. Things are heating up. Keep it going F1, FIA and factories. Gm needs to come in now.

I think this is a rather modest statement from Lando, actually....WDC is not happening any time soon

He should set his aims on a podium place

Not only does Norris have to be at top of his game, he needs a car that is at the top of the grid to get a shot at the driver's WC

Lando is definitely one of the 4 young drivers in the field with the potential to be a WC one day, if they happen to be in a competitive car.
Sadly, I agree with him. 2023 is not going to be the year that McLaren will be able to give him nor his new team mate a chance to be fighting for the championship.

Well you can't say that, Norris and the team could be 'sandbagging'

Even if Norris iis saying the 2023 is like the 2022 car which is not a championship winning car .

It is how much improvement or performance is lost or gained by their competitor that counts.

Until then we just don't know .
