The official
Hungaroring X account has released the first images of the 2024 trophy for this weekend's upcoming
Hungarian Grand Prix. The trophy this year features yellow and green detailing. Those on the podium though will be hoping to avoid the same incident caused by
Lando Norris last year.
This year's trophy follows a similar design to last season's. However, instead of the pink detailing for the winner, it will be green and yellow. The pink was used as a nod to the Barbie movie which was released around the time. Nevertheless, the first images for this year were shared on Monday afternoon.
What happened to the trophy at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2023?
In 2023,
Max Verstappen finished the race first, with
Lando Norris finishing second and
Sergio Perez in third. As Norris celebrated on the podium, he slammed his champagne bottle into the podium too hard, which caused
Verstappen's £30,000 hand-made trophy to fall and break into pieces. At the time, Norris said:
"Max just placed it too close to the edge. It fell over, I guess. Not my problem, it's his," The
McLaren driver later apologised for causing damage to the world champion's trophy, and the
pair shared online that it had been fixed.
Norris warned not to make the same mistake this year
