The role of race director in Formula One is able to be divided between two people starting from next season. If that was the case, one of the two would be in charge and the second person would have a supporting role.
Although
Formula 1 will have to wait a little longer for the
FIA's 'structural changes', more and more is becoming clear about the possible changes. For example, Michael Masi might step aside and take a role in the safety department of the sport.
Splitting the role in two
Masi has always acted alone since his appointment in 2019, but according to Craig Slater of
Sky Sports F1, it is possible that will change. There could still be one race director, according to the journalist, but he or she will be supported. It is also possible that the role of race director will be rotated.
Slater also points out that according to the rules, a race director must act predictably. "That's to say the race director will follow clearly set out protocols rather than exercise personal judgement calls," he added.
