Zak O'Sullivan has won a curtailed Formula 2 sprint race in Belgium. The race, which was meant to take place before F1 qualifying but was delayed due to rain, ended after 8 laps. Hauger and Verschoor joined the Brit on the podium.
Due to the huge rain showers falling on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the Formula 2 sprint race was postponed several times. Due to the high risks, the drivers couldn't race but the event finally got started at 18:30 local time in Belgium.
Rain started to fall again at the start of the F2 sprint race at 18:30, but they managed to get action underway. It was an eventful few laps, with Kimi Antonelli and Oliver Bearman making remarkable overtakes at Eau Rouge, through Raidllon and across the straight. In the end, Antonelli finished in P6. Bearman started from P15 on the grid, but worked his way through the field. The future F1 driver finished 7th.
But at the front, it was pole-sitter O'Sullivan who controlled proceedings. He was still in the lead on lap four when the safety car came out. Marti had stopped out on the circuit after an early trip through the pitlane. It seems like he had a technical issue. The race never restarted.
