Force India’s Esteban Ocon will line up alongside Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas on the third row of the grid for tomorrow’s Monaco Grand Prix.
Ocon still only has one point this season, his solitary tenth place coming in Bahrain.
He has retired in both races since, which is a stark contrast to his early season form last year, where he finished in the top ten in the first five races.
Despite this poor form, Ocon produced a terrific lap to be the best driver outside the top three teams.
“I’m feeling very happy. Today we showed out strength as a team and we are sixth on the grid in Monaco,” the Frenchman said.
Despite his good starting position, Ocon still feels as if he could have gone faster in his car, which has been upgraded recently.
“The team has done so much work to improve the car by bringing updates to each race and it’s really paying off,” said Ocon. “My lap in Q3 didn’t feel like my best of the weekend, but the car was working well, and the lap time was there.
“I’m not getting carried away because there is a long way to go tomorrow. We still need to do a good job in the race, stay out of trouble and bring the car home.”
