Before the action began in August 1984, the Grand Prix was already going to be known as a milestone race. It was the 400th version of an F1 world championship event. But in the aftermath, it gets remembered as Lauda's first win on home soil.

In fact, he still remains the only Austrian to win in Austria, though Red Bull's victory earlier this season is in the same book.

Lauda also took the lead of the championship at this race. A year in which he went on to pick up his third and final World Championship.

Lauda, 69, is currently recovering from a lung operation which took place a few weeks ago. From all of us here at GPblog, we hope he has the best possible recovery.
