Former F1 driver
Pascal Wehrlein has been retained as a development driver by
Ferrari for the 2020 season. There is reduced testing time next season so the simulator will be a key part of teams preparation and that's where Wehrlein will spend most of his time.
“We still have experienced drivers for [2020] in the simulator,” said Team Principal Mattia Binotto to
Formula1.com.
“So Pascal is staying with us [in 2020] but we’ve got as well other drivers who maybe are not so much experienced in Formula 1, but have done many years of simulator. “Our simulator drivers are very well integrated in the team... The simulator is more and more important, that’s why we will invest on the simulator in the future.”
Wehrlein is also racing in Formula E for Mahindra and will have to balance his time between the two. It is a great opportunity for the driver who will hope that door to a Formula 1 return will open up in the future.
