There is plenty of talk within the
Formula 1 paddock about rumours that
Aston Martin driver
Fernando Alonso might make a move to
Red Bull Racing's
F1 team as a replacement for Mexican
Sergio Perez. The two-time world champion reacted extremely strongly to the rumours. He denied any of it was true and even threatened "consequences". And now
Pedro de la Rosa is getting involved
Spaniard
Pedro de la Rosa is a former
Formula 1 driver. During his long career, he competed for Arrows, Jaguar,
McLaren, Sauber, and HRT, among others. Today, he is a brand ambassador for the
Aston Martin Formula One team.
Alonso an asset
De la Rosa spoke to Spain's Movistar Plus+ about the rumours surrounding his compatriot Alonso. De la Rosa says he does not know where the rumours come from. "I don't know where these rumours come from, I don't know what source they have," he said. According to the Spanish former driver, Alonso will simply stay with the Aston Martin Formula One team: "Fernando is an Aston Martin driver, he is a very important asset for us and nothing is going to change."
He then stressed how important Alonso is to the British team: "Obviously, Fernando is our driver and also an asset. It is also very important to have Fernando in the team."
De la Rosa does, however, admit that the rumours come at a difficult time: "Now is not exactly the best time. The silly season is already over, let's concentrate on what remains this year, these are three very important races." And De La Rosa closed the interview with another assurance about Alonso: "But don't worry, he is staying."
