Sergio Perez lost his Racing Point seat out of the blue and was in limbo for a long time. Now he has found a place with a top team and hopes to give
Red Bull Racing and
Honda a nice farewell gift.
Perez had signed a multi-year contract with Racing Point and was therefore under the impression that he would be racing for Aston Martin in 2021. However, nothing could be further from the truth.
Sebastian Vettel was available on the market and Lawrence Stroll found a clause in Perez's contract that allowed him to swap the Mexican for the four-time world champion.
Max Verstappen's new teammate will drive a
Honda engine for the first time in 2021, in the final year in F1 for Honda.
''I am looking forward to that enormously. I am aware that everyone at Honda is working hard for their last season in the sport and with the whole Red Bull family we hope to finish at the top together. Hopefully we will give Honda that title in the last year," concluded the Mexican.
