Sergio Perez believes that this season will be the most important of his career as he looks for as he looks for the “best car possible” in 2019.
The Mexican has already had one chance at a big team, when he partnered Jenson Button in 2013 following Lewis Hamilton’s switch to Mercedes.
However, the move did not work out for Perez, and he switched to Force India in 2014, where he has been ever since.
The 28-year old has picked up four podiums with Force India, adding to the three he picked up whilst at Sauber.
Perez told Reuters: “Definitely it is a year that is going to determine my career, my coming years.
“This year it’s going to be interesting to stay where we are and then see what’s available.
“I definitely want to be in the best possible car I can be.”
Perez had a few incidents with team-mate Esteban Ocon last season, but the Mexican insists that the relationship between the pair has improved, saying: “I think we definitely had very intense moments in the team and thankfully everything changed for the good of the team, for the benefit of us.
“Now we work well together, in the last races, and I really hope that trend continues.
“We have to work together, we have to be united to push the team forward and hopefully battle each other for good positions.”
