Pierre Gasly has still not spoken to Helmut Marko about his dismissal from Red Bull Racing. In the Beyond the Grid podcast, the Frenchman is asked about that period, and it turns out there is some pain after all.

Gasly was suddenly promoted to Red Bull Racing in 2019. The Frenchman had only one full F1 season behind him at Toro Rosso, but suddenly had to step up as Daniel Ricciardo's replacement. No one saw the Australian's departure coming, so suddenly there had to be internal shuffling.

"It was a roller coaster ride from podiums to promotion to the best team in Formula One was just quite unfortunate that that year the car wasn't working as well. Unlucky timing. Things didn't work out the best way. It definitely made me better as a driver and also as a person," Gasly looks back on his time at Red Bull Racing.

Asked if he now understands why things did not work out at Red Bull Racing, Gasly cryptically replies: "100% The interviewer continued by asking if he has since spoken to Helmut Marko about the matter.

"No. I hope one day we get the chance to. But I know deep inside, they're smart people. They might have their own opinions on certain things, but they are clear things which were obvious. It's the way that it was. It wasn't really fair. But anyway, that's the way it was, the sport."

"I've learned as well that this sport is not always fair. I've really sort of closed the chapter when I left AlphaTauri and opened a brand new story with Alpine," the Frenchman concluded. Gasly drove at AlphaTauri for another 3.5 years after his dismissal from Red Bull, where (under the Toro Rosso name) he still managed to win the Italian Grand Prix.
