Warm weather at Silverstone? Yep, that’s what we’ve got and that’s how it’s going to stay, and Kimi Raikkonen is hoping that his Ferrari team will have an edge over Mercedes and Red Bull due to the extreme heat.
Ferrari haven’t had all that much success in recent years at Silverstone, winning only once in 10 years, and will have to end Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton’s dominance at the circuit.
Mercedes have won the past five British Grands Prix, with Nico Rosberg in 2013 before a four year stretch of home wins for Hamilton.
Despite this, Raikkonen believes Ferrari are still in the game this weekend after showing pace in FP2 yesterday afternoon. Team mate Sebastian Vettel topped the session with Raikkonen less than half a second behind, albeit in fourth.
Raikkonen believes this could be due to the temperatures seen this weekend in Britain, which are similar to the Austrian conditions last week, where Ferrari secured a double podium finish.
“If you look at the last race, where we came second and third and it was hot,” the Finn said. “It’s a different place and slightly different tyres with less rubber on it, so we’ll see on Sunday.
“But so far everything is okay and I prefer it’s warm and nice than cold and rainy.
“I think it was a normal Friday for us and for sure we have things to improve, but there wasn’t any reason for this not to be the same as any other Friday.”
