Kimi Raikkonen will go into Sunday's Grand Prix of the United States with the mentality that he doesn't have much to lose, he explained, as he'll start on softer tyres than Lewis Hamilton in front of him.
The Ferrari driver will be the last hope of his teammate Sebastian Vettel down in fifth, as the German needs to stay at least one place behind Hamilton to not officially lose out on the drivers' championship. If Hamilton cán hang onto first place and keep Vettel in third or lower, it will mean that the Brit will win his fifth title compared to Vettel's four.
Raikkonen has his work cut out for him, as he starts directly behind Hamilton in second place. With the Finn being on softer tyres as well, he could be making an early move for P1 and hold onto that place for as long as possible as Vettel edges closer.
"Little bit too slow but I can deal with it," the Ice Man told Martin Brundle when analyzing his qualifying performance at the Circuit of the Americas.
"It's been a pretty positive day. We came pretty close so it's far from ideal but I feel good with the car.
"We'll try tomorrow. It's going to be a long race and nobody really knows how the tyres will survive because of yesterday's rain so it will be interesting."
When Brundle remarked that he'll start on the quicker tyres, Raikkonen replied: "Yeah and [I have] not much to lose!
"We'll try to make a good start and go from there and see what we can do, it should be OK."
