Red Bull Racing showed at the
Australian Grand Prix that the house specialty is not yet forgotten. Indeed,
Sergio Perez's pit stop was the fastest of all.
Over the years, Red Bull has grown into a team that can perform pit stops to perfection. Last year, that performance was somewhat marred by a new rule to make pit stops slower/safer, but even after that, the Austrians quickly came out on top again. That appears to be the case again this year.
Red Bull the fastest again
In 2022, the pit stop teams will have to get used to Pirelli's new and larger tires. In addition, there is now a wheel cover above the tyre and other materials are used. During the first two races
McLaren appeared to have this under control the best, with twice the fastest pit stop.
The fastest pit stop of this season (2.31s by
McLaren in Bahrain)
This, however, was broken by Red Bull this weekend. Indeed,
Sergio Perez's pit stop at
Albert Park took only 2.27 seconds. McLaren was handsome though, with two identical pit stops for Norris and Ricciardo: 2.42 seconds.
In the top ten we also find the pit stop of
Nicholas Latifi,
Charles Leclerc,
Lewis Hamilton and also the pit stop of
Max Verstappen. For that pit stop Red Bull needed more time, namely 2.90 seconds. The pit stops of
Lance Stroll, Yuki Tsunoda and Guanyu Zhou complete the top ten.
