Renault team principal
Cyril Abiteboul has stated again that he'd like to continue the partnership between Renault and Red Bull, but the French team did give Red Bull a deadline of May 15th to state what engine partner they want to have next season.
However, Abiteboul now tells Auto-Hebdo that May 15th will no longer be the deadline for the Bulls.
"After twelve years of working together and with the many wins we've accumulated together, we'd like to continue with Red Bull," Abiteboul stated.
"It's about the timing though, because we need to make multiple engines for 2019.
"We are able to give Red Bull two extra weeks though to think it through before they make a decision."
Two weeks extra means that the new deadline is May 29th now, instead of the 15th. Exactly three weeks from now, Red Bull will have to communicate to Renault whether they want to continue their partnership, or if they will test their luck elsewhere. Honda has been named as a potential new engine partner for the Bulls, as the Japanese carmaker currently supplies just the one team, that team being Toro Rosso.
To be continued (in three weeks or less)!
