Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul claims that Max Verstappen's criticism of the French manufacturer is 'unfair'.
With Red Bull Racing switching alliances to Honda for next season, the partnership between Red Bull and Renault is coming to an end and Abiteboul wants to conclude their relationship on a high.
Verstappen consistently manages to mention Red Bull's power deficit at essentially every single race this season.
Abiteboul, though, believes criticism is "unfair" after an impressive performance from the Dutchman, when finishing P2 in Singapore recently.
"It's a bit unfair," Abiteboul claimed to Sky Sports. "We know we have more to do on the engine side but just look at what is capable in Sochi, a track that is highly power sensitive.
"He also did a front row (in Singapore) with the C-spec so I think it's a bit unfair. They have a good car but the engine is making steps. I don't want to see Max or anyone in particular, spoil the fantastic relationship we have had with Red Bull over 12 years.
"We need to finish on a high with Red Bull this season."
Verstappen and his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo managed P4 and P6 respectively in FP2 of the Japanese Grand Prix this morning.
