Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has confirmed that Daniel Ricciardo suffered the same clutch failure as Max Verstappen did in Friday's practice.
Verstappen suffered a clutch problem on Friday and was forced to pull over, almost identically to the way Ricciardo did on Sunday.
This was Ricciardo's eighth retirement of the season - more than any other driver - emphasising the reliability issues surrounding the Renault power unit.
Horner revealed that Ricciardo's car began to develop the same problem early on in the race and the Aussie got all the way to lap 61 before he had to pull over and concede position to Sebastian Vettel and then retire.
"It looks like a clutch issue that probably, looking at the data, started on lap six," said Horner to RaceFans. "It looks similar to the issue that Max had on Friday so we need to obviously get it all back to the UK to understand it but that's what's looking like the culprit."
Horner said that the problem didn't seem to be linked to Ricciardo's start as the Aussie got some wheelpsin and was overtaken by Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
"He's had an immensely frustrating afternoon," Horner continued. "You can understand his emotions are running incredibly high."
