Max Verstappen gave the spot back immediately after his overtaking action on
Lewis Hamilton because he had gone outside the track.
Daniel Ricciardo finds it easy to talk with hindsight but would have done things differently than his former teammate.
The
Bahrain Grand Prix was won by
Lewis Hamilton, but
Max Verstappen was close to winning. The Dutchman passed Hamilton, only the
Red Bull Racing driver ended up outside the track. The Track Limits have been questionable all weekend, but for an overtaking man, it was clear.
Ricciardo supports Verstappen
Verstappen had to give that spot back, although opinions are divided on this afterwards. Verstappen himself understands that this action was unacceptable, but Ricciardo would have done it differently. ''Of course, with hindsight, it's easy to talk, but it was about the victory, so then I would always say 'go for it''', the Australian said at the press conference.
''If Verstappen has to answer now, he will probably also say he should have driven away. It's also kind of strange because there were a lot of people using that part of the track. If I had to make the choice with the knowledge of now, I would definitely have driven away'', concludes the
McLaren driver.
