George Russell left
Williams at the end of last season to join Mercedes.
Alexander Albon was his successor at his old team and the Briton is very happy with that, he told
Autosport.com in an interview
. Albon was given a chance at
Red Bull Racing for a season and a half, but could not live up to expectations. Therefore, he had to make way for
Sergio Perez and disappeared further into the background. Thus, in 2021 at the Austrian racing stable he was mainly important with his work in the simulator.
Russell emphasizes that it is good that Albon is back on the
Formula 1 circuits. The Mercedes driver frequently competed against the Thai in his youth and knows that Albon was 'one of the very best' at the time. That it didn't work out at Red Bull says little, for Russell, about his future in the motorsport class.
Russell has a lot of faith in Albon
It makes Russell very confident that Albon will continue his strong start to the season. For now, he has finished in the points twice. Whereas he picked up one point in Australia with a tenth place finish, his drive in Miami was even good for two points.
